Subpoena Process Server in Virginia.
Professional service of witness subpoenas, records subpoenas, deposition subpoenas, and subpoenas duces tecum—with documented attempts, deadline-aware handling, and organized proof of service.
The deadline is fixed. The service plan should not be improvised.
A subpoena assignment requires the complete issued document, the correct witness or custodian, a usable service location, the appearance or production date, and every instruction supplied by counsel or the issuing court. CoVa Serve handles the field service and return record—not subpoena preparation or legal advice.
What to send with the assignment
Provide the complete issued subpoena and enough information to identify and locate the witness, custodian, or authorized recipient.
Witnesses, records, depositions, and custodians.
CoVa Serve accepts subpoena assignments when private service is permitted and the documents have already been properly issued.

The named recipient determines the field approach.
An individual witness, corporate custodian, medical provider, employer, bank, and public office each present different identity, access, and timing considerations.
Individual witness service
Residential or workplace attempts are planned around identity details, schedule information, lawful access, and the required appearance date.
Business and records custodians
The legal business name, department, custodian title, suite, and delivery requirements should be confirmed before fieldwork.
Healthcare facilities
Hospitals, practices, and records vendors may use centralized departments, controlled entry, or specific recipient procedures.
Deadline and fee review
Counsel should provide the appearance or production date, any required witness-fee tender, and all special service instructions.
Unknown or stale location
When a witness or custodian location is uncertain, research can help identify and evaluate a likely service address before the attempt.

Questions before you send the subpoena?
The issuing authority, recipient, deadline, location, fees, and return instructions can all affect acceptance and service planning.
How do I have a subpoena served in Virginia?
Obtain the properly issued subpoena, then submit the complete document, recipient name, service address, appearance or production date, identifying information, fee instructions, and return requirements. CoVa Serve reviews the assignment before acceptance.
How far in advance should a subpoena be served?
Send it as early as possible. Virginia law notes that a court may decline to enforce a subpoena served fewer than five calendar days before the required appearance. Different subpoenas and jurisdictions may have additional timing rules, so counsel should determine the controlling deadline.
How much does subpoena service cost?
Routine service in the standard Hampton Roads coverage area is $95 per recipient and address for up to three attempts. Rush service is $160. Locate and difficult-service options are also available. Fees tendered to a witness are separate from the service charge.
Can you serve a subpoena at a workplace?
Workplace service may be possible depending on lawful access, employer policies, the subpoena, and whether the intended witness or authorized recipient can be identified. Provide the employer, department, suite, schedule, and access details.
Can you serve a hospital or medical-records custodian?
Yes, when the subpoena is properly issued and private service is permitted. Healthcare organizations may use centralized records departments or third-party vendors, so provide the exact entity, facility, custodian designation, address, and instructions.
What if the witness address is unknown?
Skip Trace + Locate Serve may be appropriate when the address is missing, stale, or uncertain. Research is used to identify and evaluate a likely address before fieldwork. A locate or successful service cannot be guaranteed.
Can you serve an out-of-state subpoena in Virginia?
Often, yes, after the requesting attorney has completed any Virginia issuance or domestication requirements. Submit the full packet and all instructions for review. CoVa Serve does not domesticate or issue subpoenas.
Will counsel receive proof of service?
Yes. After successful service, CoVa Serve prepares proof or return documentation according to the accepted instructions. If service is unsuccessful, a documented attempt or non-service record can be returned.
Send the subpoena. We’ll review the field plan.
Upload the issued document and share the recipient, service location, appearance or production date, fee instructions, and known schedule or access information.
